Pastor Dave Greear was born and raised in Charleston, WV. He attended college at West Virginia University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1988. Though raised in a Christian home, Dave was graciously drawn to Christ as a freshman at WVU. After graduation from WVU, Dave attended seminary, receiving his master of divinity degree in 1992. Dave has also recently completed his doctor of ministry degree, finishing his dissertation in July of 2015.
From 1992 to 1997 Dave served as the assistant pastor at University Baptist Church in Clemson, SC. While serving at UBC, he led the church’s campus ministry to Clemson University, then known as the “Spurgeon Foundation.” While serving at Clemson, Dave met his wife Jenny.
From 1997 to 2014 Dave and Jenny served as a campus missionaries with Campus Light Ministries to multiple campuses in the state of West Virginia. From 1997to 2009 they worked on the campuses of Marshall University and West Virginia State University. From 2009 to 2014 they served on the campuses of West Virginia University and Fairmont State University. For parts of 2007 to 2009 Dave also pastored the East Lynn Baptist Church in Wayne, WV, while simultaneously working with Campus Light at Marshall and WV State.
Jenny was born to an American military family stationed outside Athens, Greece. Her multi-cultural experience grew as she spent most of her childhood and teen years outside the continental United States. She trusted Christ as Lord and Savior at a young age after hearing her parents explain the Gospel to her older sister. She graduated from Clemson University in 1997 with a degree in elementary education and a minor in Spanish. Jenny has subsequently taught both Spanish and second grade. She left the classroom for a time to homeschool her own children but is currently teaching at a local preschool in Cary.
The Greears have been blessed with three children, Caleb (age 14), Susanna (age 13), and Sarah (age 10). They are excited to have Nguyen Do from Vietnam also living with them and attending school in Raleigh. Nguyen is the son of former international students at Marshall University that Dave and Jenny befriended while ministering at MU.
Cornerstone Baptist Church began on March 22, 2015, in central Raleigh north of the NC State campus. CBC desires to be a multi-generational, multi-ethnic church reaching many of the different demographic groups in Raleigh. They hope that young and old, American and international, scholar and blue-collar worker will all feel welcome in their assembly.
Though Dave purposely located CBC near NC State with the ultimate goal of ministering to NCSU students (American and international), he is not attempting it to be a “campus church.” He realizes that a church must be built on families, and he is striving to do just that in a location that will also be convenient for students from NC State and Raleigh’s other colleges and universities. Sunday mornings CBC began services at the Jaycee Park Community Center at 2405 Wade Avenue, about one mile north of the NC State campus. On Wednesday evenings they meet upstairs in the Cameron Village Chick-Fil-A for an informal time of Bible study and prayer.
