Terry and Rachel Ritschard both trained as nurses and worked for a number of years for the Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, SC. During those years they faithfully served in many different capacities at Trinity Bible Church. Though Terry had a strong sense shortly after his salvation that God would have him in full-time Christian service, the preparation was long. In 2002 they applied to GFA for missionary service in Papua New Guinea, a medically needy field. They planned to use their medical skills to reach people with the Gospel.
In April 2005 they joined the missionary team in Kiari. During their first several months on the field, they adjusted to PNG, studied Pidgin and worked on their house. Their plans were suddenly and drastically changed on November 30, 2005, when they plunged several hundred yards down a steep ravine in their truck. Because of their serious injuries, they were flown to Australia for medical help. The Lord graciously spared their lives and through the accident, redirected them to Goroka. They live outside of Goroka in Bobiufa.
Terry began by preaching in fundamental churches in the Goroka area while Rachel assisted with Sunday school. Since men from the bush have less education and opportunity for schooling, Terry has begun a church and a Bible school to train men from the bush with the goal of sending them back to their villages to reach their own people. His goal is to purchase land to provide space for the men to garden while they attend the school. Terry and Rachel have 4 boys, Michael, Benjamin, Samuel, and David.
