In February 2002, Doug and Ruth Bachorik arrived in Manila to join the faculty at Bob Jones Memorial Bible College and to start the college's music program. Both Doug and Ruth are professional musicians and educators. Doug holds a B.S. in music education from Bob Jones University and an M.M. in choral conducting from the University of Oklahoma. Ruth holds a B.S. in Bible and music from Pillsbury Baptist Bible College. She earned an M.M. in piano performance from BJU. Ruth taught private and group piano at BJU, and then taught in private studios in Oklahoma and Minnesota while working regularly as an accompanist in chamber music.
Previous to the Lord calling the Bachoriks to the Philippines, Doug served for 5 years as head of the music department and director of choral activities at Fergus Falls Community College in Minnesota. He also conducted the Otter Tail Valley Civic Orchestra. While in the States, both Doug and Ruth served extensively in church music ministries - Doug as music director and Ruth as church accompanist. During their deputation and furlough travels, they have presented music workshops and sacred concerts.
Burdened for the great need for Christ-honoring, quality sacred music in Filipino churches, Doug developed a music curriculum for BJMBC that teaches excellent musicianship as well as a Scriptural basis for God-honoring music. Ruth oversees the the piano instruction with the help of several American and Filipino teachers. The program has expanded to offer instruction on stringed instruments.
Both Doug and Ruth have worked with the music program at Gospel Light Baptist Church, turning over most duties to Filipino musicians. They continue to serve there and in other churches in and around the metro Manila area.
The Lord has blessed Doug and Ruth with five children: Alicia, Joseph, Julia, Lydia, and Evan.
