Bio
People may know Dayton Walker as the voice of WMUU, a Christian radio station where he worked for nearly two decades (1960-1964, 1968-1981), a public servant on the Greenville City Council (1986-1999), or an actor performing in the Unusual Films production of Sheffey, but Dayton Walker’s lifetime burden is for church ministry. This burden began with him serving as a music director, church planter, interim pastor, and then senior pastor. In 1998, he became senior pastor of a church on the verge of closing. He led Grace Baptist Church in East Flat Rock, NC, for the next 14 years, establishing a missions pledge program, updating the church constitution, providing oversight for the renovation of the sanctuary and bathrooms, and beginning a Spanish ministry. The Spanish congregation now meets in its own facility.
In 2012, he passed the pastoral baton to Pastor Jeff Hawkey and joined GFA’s Interim Pastor program, where he has assisted churches in New Jersey, Illinois, South Korea, South Carolina, California, New York, Kansas, and North Carolina, helping many of them find their next pastor. Anticipating the coming shortage of pastors, he has worked since April 2018 to identify men with pastoral experience who are retiring and could serve as interim pastors. He also works diligently to help churches without pastors find a pastor.
