Paul’s prayer for the young church at Colossae (Colossians 1:3-14) includes thanksgiving and petition. His main petition was that they would be filled with the knowledge of God and what He wants. This knowledge was intended to be applied to life so that the Colossians would please the Lord in everything—in bearing fruit, having a growing relationship with God, enduring, and being joyful. Paul tells us the manner in which we should pray for young churches—wrestling for them (Colossians 4:12). The growth of believers in our ministries depends on how much we strive for them in prayer.
