Syncretism is the combination of two or more competing religions or cultures. It is mixing one belief system with another. Syncretism is the natural reaction of the unregenerate heart, and it often results in a prosperity gospel. The Old Testament, New Testament, and missions history all give examples of syncretism. It is important to avoid assuming that you are above failure in straying from teaching the sound Gospel since missionaries can unintentionally encourage syncretism because of their own ignorance or impatience or by downplaying repentance.
