Reaching Your Buddhist Neighbor

What are the main teachings of Buddhism? When and where did it originate? What are the main Buddhist practices of the common people in your culture? How does Buddhism mix with other religions? What is the biggest challenge you face in seeking to win Buddhists to Christ? On this practical roundtable, panelists Mark Lehman (Taiwan), Forrest McPhail (Cambodia), Chris Seawright (Thailand), and one worker in a restricted access nation discuss these questions and more with moderator Alan Patterson (missionary to Japan for 18 years).

Suffering is a key concept of Buddhism, a philosophy of life and personal salvation through a person’s own merits. The panelists often see Buddhism mixed with other belief systems such as animism, Taoism, Confucianism, and even Christianity. Although each of the panelists serves in a different country, they agreed that ancestor worship is the biggest challenge in a person coming to Christ. The good news is that “Jesus’ resurrection showed that He has power over death, sin, karma, suffering, and all the evil spirits. He is the solution for which the Buddha was searching!”
