Matthew Henry once commented that while “the good way is one; bypaths are many.” There are many bypaths that can keep leaders from finishing well. Two of these dangers are posturing and pretense. By examining two Old Testament leaders, Saul and David, we will see not only how these two “bypaths” can creep into our lives but also how to get off such paths or by God’s grace avoid them altogether.
