Bio

Melvin and Susan are from Birmingham, Alabama. They met while Melvin was serving in the US Navy and were married on August 15, 1970. They have four children and six grandchildren.

Melvin attended Bob Jones University from 1976 to 1981 and graduated as a Missions major with a minor in Spanish. He and Susan were accepted with GFA Missions in 1982 and began deputation for Chile in 1983.

They ministered in Chile from 1985 to 2006. In 2006 they returned to their native Alabama and ministered to Hispanic people in many Alabama towns. Later, they began to feel that the Lord might have something else that He wanted them to do, and they eventually concluded that He wanted them to move to Puerto Rico and minister at the Puerto Rico Baptist College.

They loved the ministry in Chile, and they loved the ministry in Alabama. They also love the ministry at PRBC. One part of the ministry in Chile that they really loved was working with the young people, and they feel that the Lord used them in that area. The ministry at PRBC is all about young people.

Some of Melvin’s many responsibilities at PRBC include: Supervision of Student Extension, Administration of Student Records, Finances, Student Discipline, Maintenance and New Projects.

At PRBC they have many different responsibilities and find that the different responsibilities provide them with opportunities to minister to their students in different areas of their lives. They feel that the Lord used their years of service in Chile and Alabama to prepare them for their service there. They thank Him for the privilege!

On June 8, 2023, Susan Purvis finished her earthly pilgrimage and went to be with her Lord.
