Judy Ferguson

Status: Senior Missionary

Location: North America
Field: South Carolina

Howard “Buzz” and Judy Ferguson lovingly labored for the Lord as missionaries in Canada for nearly two decades.

Buzz was saved as a teenager during a revival meeting at his local church. Several years later, while attending a Christian conference, the Lord used the testimonies of teens that had been saved during that week to burden him for ministry with young people. Buzz eventually gave up his secular job and enrolled in Bob Jones University to train for full-time ministry.

Judy accepted Christ later in life. Although she had been a member of a fundamental church for several years and her husband and children were saved, she had been unwilling to accept salvation. When the Lord sent a young Baptist preacher to their church, Judy spoke with him about how she could have eternal life. It was during this conversation that the Holy Spirit convicted her of her sin, and she welcomed Christ to be Lord of her life.

In 1994, the Fergusons landed in Canada, burdened to work with a home for delinquent boys on a farm in Nova Scotia. The goal for this home was to evangelize these young people and help them to grow into responsible Christian men, ready to serve in various capacities in the local church. Buzz and Judy taught the Bible to these boys, oversaw their work on the farm, and provided them with food and health care.

When the boys’ ministry shut down, Buzz and Judy transitioned to Newfoundland. The Lord burdened them for several areas that were completely unevangelized, so the couple began planting New Hope Baptist Church in Stephenville. Sharing the Gospel and working through Bible studies with people who had never heard before was exciting. The Fergusons also ministered regularly to the seniors at the local seniors’ complex.

In 2005, Buzz and Judy made the difficult decision to step back from their church-planting ministry in Stephenville. Buzz’s health had declined to a point where preaching was no longer possible, so they moved back to the United States to work alongside their son-in-law at Calvary Baptist Church in Cheraw, South Carolina. They soon began a ministry to young girls, helping them learn to live out the Bible doctrine they learned in Sunday School, church, and Kids 4 Truth. Buzz and Judy also hosted numerous missionaries and ministry teams in their home.

Buzz went home to be with his Savior on February 5, 2020.
