Bio

Roger Vogel was born in rural southwest Iowa in 1945 and was converted to Christ as a 19-year-old college student. Three years after his salvation, he completed a Bachelor of Forestry degree from Iowa State University and then married Mary Rogers in 1968.

The young couple went on to graduate school at BJU Seminary, where Roger completed a Master of Divinity in 1972. Following graduation, he served from 1972 to 1973 as associate pastor of Calvary Bible Church in Columbus, Ohio. In 1973, he helped start Berean Bible Church in Dublin, Ohio, and pastored there for nearly 39 years. During this time, he was involved in camp ministry, organizing and directing a week of camp each summer. He continued his education, completing a Doctor of Ministry from BJU Seminary in 1991. Pastor Vogel’s love for missions was kindled as he also visited and preached on numerous mission fields.

After retiring from the full-time pastorate, he joined GFA’s special assignment program. From 2014 to 2019, he spent one to six months each year teaching at BJMBC in the Philippines as well as teaching block classes for pastors.

The Vogels are presently members of Westerville Bible Church in Westerville, Ohio, where Roger has taught Sunday school, filled the pulpit, and led singing.

When worldwide travel became more difficult in 2020 with many countries closing their borders, the Vogels shifted their ministry focus to serve in GFA’s interim pastor program.

Roger and Mary have four grown children and twelve grandchildren.
